“So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.” (2 Peter 1:19 NASB1995)
In context, the “prophetic word” is in regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ into the world (the first time) and the testimonies of his apostles saying that they had heard God the Father say, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased.” And it is in regard to the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ and of our faith in him, and what that faith should look like if our faith is of God, which was taught us by the apostles and recorded for us in the Scriptures. And we will do well to pay attention to what it teaches us.
For so many lies are being spread today and accepted as truth. This is, indeed, a time of great deception unlike any of us have ever known before, I believe. Too many people are relying on the internet, more specifically on AI (artificial intelligence), to tell them the truth. And this is not to say that AI lies all the time. Sometimes they tell more truth than humans do. But we should not be relying on AI or other humans, including evangelists and pastors and “Christian” authors to tell us the truth on any subject, really.
If we want biblical truth, we need to get it from the Scriptures. And this is not to say that we should not use commentaries or other Bible study helps, but they should not be what we go to first, and they should never be “the authority” on any subject. The same with devotionals that people like me (or not like me) write and share and/or publish. There you are largely getting the opinion of another human, which may or may not be correct. So be students of the Scriptures who rely upon the Holy Spirit to teach you truth.
But, as the body of Christ, we are instructed in the Scriptures that we are to be teaching and admonishing one another in the faith. We are to be speaking the truth in love to one another, encouraging one another to walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands in daily practice. We are also to be warning each other of the danger of deceivers, i.e. of those who teach lies, and of the deceitfulness of sin. And we are to be helping one another to grow close to our Lord in holy living, and to be committed to His service.
Just don’t make other humans your Bible, no matter who that human is.
For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).
But this is not what is being predominantly taught today as the gospel of Christ and of our salvation. Too many are teaching a profession of faith only is what God requires of us for salvation. So this is why I say that we need to let the Scriptures be what determine truth for us, not that we can’t learn from one another, for we are to be encouraging and exhorting one another in the faith. But we should test everything we hear against the Scriptures to make certain that what we are hearing is what the Scriptures actually teach.

Musical Instrumentation by Mark Bradley
“Come to Me all you who thirst; come to waters.
Listen to Me, and eat what’s good today,
And your soul will delight in richest of fare.
Give ear to Me, and you will live.
I have made an eternal covenant with you.
Wash in the blood of the Lamb.”
Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him.
Let the wicked forsake his way, in truth.
Let him turn to the Lord, and he will receive mercy.
Freely, God pardons him.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,”
declares the Lord, our God.
“My word that goes out of My mouth is truthful.
It will not return to Me unfulfilled.
My word will accomplish all that I desire,
And achieve the goal I intend.
You will go in joy and be led forth in peace.
The mountains will burst into song… before you,
And all of the trees clap their hands.”
