Question for you

I have a question I want to ask all my readers, but first let me preface it with this. When the Lord Jesus called me 15 years ago to write down what he was teaching me from his Word and to put it on the internet, I was reading in the Bible book by book, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. I learned a tremendous amount of truth that way, as I was reading scriptures in context.

Then, two to three years ago the Lord led me to begin teaching from the daily scripture readings on Biblegateway.com, so that is what I have been doing since then, yet he has me teach the scriptures in context, so I don’t teach just a few verses. But, lately I have been sensing that I am to being doing something different now. Just recently I also became aware that Biblegateway.com has been following the same reading plan for at least the two or three years I have been following it, so I have been teaching off those same verses in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

So, I have been praying and I have been asking the Lord if I should go back to teaching book by book and chapter by chapter, etc., and/or if maybe I should do some topical studies. I can’t help but feel that the Lord has made me aware that I have been teaching the same passages the past few years and that maybe this is his way of letting me know that it is time to do something different.

So, my question to you is, if I did some topical studies, which I am inclined to do, what topics would be of interest to you? I am not promising anything here, nor am I saying I will cover all topics suggested that are proposed to me, for I am still going to seek the leading of the Holy Spirit in this, but you are my readers, and so I am asking for your input on this. Are there any topics of interest to you that you would like me to study and share what I have learned?

Or, would you prefer a (Bible) book study chapter by chapter and verse by verse?

Thank you for your input. All suggestions will be considered before the Lord in prayer, but this will help me a lot to know what the needs are out there. I appreciate all of you very much!! You encourage my heart on a daily basis!!!

  1. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
    ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I would like to see what the Lord shares with you about these verses. It truly gives you a deeper understanding of salvation.

“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:11-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Also consider these!

  3. An old pastor of mine said that the Bible’s been given so that every believer should have all of it taught to them in their lifetime! I’m not sure whether he quite succeeded (although he’s still preaching). But that seems a good principle. He’s since said he wishes he mixed it up with topical as well. My reservation about topical subjects is that they don’t give you the well rounded, balanced diet that consecutive teaching does. I do my regular devotionals, but add in topical posts as and when I think of them. All the best in deciding, as the Spirit guides of course!

    • Robert, thank you for your input. I appreciate it. Yes, the danger in topical posts is that we can lose context and subjects can be taught in error if we are not diligent to make sure we keep the context of the verses.

Nonetheless, when we teach verse by verse we can also lose context if we don’t have related scriptures included that give additional information or insight or support to what the scripture at hand is teaching. So, if done correctly, a topical study can be more well rounded than a verse by verse study in that they can bring in more scriptures on the same subject to give a more well-rounded picture of what scripture teaches on that subject.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I appreciate them much!

  4. The Scriptures are given to us through the inspiration of God the Father, for those whose right it is to be able to call Him ‘Father’. ‘Rightly dividing the Word of Truth’ i.e. separating flesh from the spirit, believing is spiritual, so topical subjects are a necessity with scripture references to back up the subject matter i.e. as example: ‘those whom crept in’ there are many references to show how the ‘Israelites’ forsook their inheritance, became lazy and the parallel works of fallen nature orchestrated by the works of Satan overtook the truth and rules over the lives of non-believers today. We cannot fight against the creator whom talks of those who are blind and deaf (foretold through the prophets). But we also have so much additional prophesy including all of the Psalms and Deuteronomy 33:17 So a topical subject could be ‘Ephraim, and Manasseh.’ (United States and Great Britain U.K.)
Therefore all things are written for our edification, and all will come to pass exactly the way it is written, the truth gives perfect peace and knowledge to them who diligently search, then the grace of God is bestowed upon them.
You know full well the churches have failed because it is written, and because it is before our eyes today. Stay with the topical writings, as these will encourage those with a lesser knowledge of the Word to be more apt to look into why their lives may be on the downside, thus encouraging them to search the scriptures more diligently. I also encourage many to use the ‘Companion Bible 1611 KJV and Strong’s Concordance’.

You can contact me at: amc@thedisciplinefactor.com for some free original studies and insight, I only put a price on studies offered through the ‘site itself to keep ‘spammers away, but to the many the works are free.

    Blessings, Craig

    • Craig, thank you for your input here. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this subject. Yes, topical studies are very useful in giving us a more full picture of what the scriptures teach on any given subject providing we still teach the scriptures in the context in which they are written.

  5. Topical is great! I have noticed life application and scripture work very well because, like Jesus’ parables, people are able to “see” or understand better with a visual they relate to. I think these are great for those on the milk especially.
