I Bless the Lord

Psalms 16:7-11 ESV

“I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.
I have set the Lord always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
or let your holy one see corruption.
You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

My security is in Jesus Christ and not in the things of this world. The things of this world come and go, but only God my Lord Jesus Christ is security. So I am not to be shaken when the things of this world dissipate and are no longer useful. And even if they should return, for a time, I am not ever to put my dependency in them, but my dependency must always be in the Lord Jesus Christ in all things and for all things. And I must trust in the Lord fully to provide for all that I need.

So, on December 24th our apartment was flooded from a water pipe freeze and break in the apartment above us, then we were dealing with water damage and clean up from that, then the contractor began tearing down the sheetrock from the ceiling, and the apartment was not useable, and then we were displaced for a week. Then the night before New Year’s Eve my husband Rick got sick and 24 hours later I got sick. He seems to be on the mend and I am somewhat improved. We, essentially, are now back in our apartment. My husband is busy getting it ready for me to move back in.

All throughout these various trials I have been putting my faith and trust in the Lord. And I was ready, if it was called for, to leave that all behind and to move on to what is next. I didn’t know if we would ever live in that apartment again. And I am still not certain of its safety because there is an issue of possible mildew or mold in the carpet. But I am trusting the Lord to work it all out for good. And so I am just following his lead. He keeps putting songs in my mind about staying near to the cross and “Have Thine Own Way, Lord.” So, I am resting in him.

I don’t see any way that this was a plot of man against me, but I do believe it was a plot of Satan against me to try to get me to doubt God or to give up or to be afraid of the “what ifs.” But Satan does sometimes use other humans to do evil against us in hopes that he can get us to fall. But this is where we must rely upon the Lord fully and get our counsel from him and then just follow his lead and let him do his work in it and through it all. And no matter what happens, His praise must remain on our lips.

Awaken the Dawn

An Original Work / January 15, 2013
Based off Psalm 57 (NIV 1984)

O my God, have mercy on me!
In the Lord, my soul takes refuge.
In the shadow of Your wings, Lord,
I find shelter till the storms pass.
I cry out to my God Most High.
He fulfills His purpose for me.
He sent His Son to die for me,
So I could be saved.

I am in the midst of lions;
Men whose teeth are spears and arrows;
Whose tongues are sharp; words accusing.
They spread a net, my feet to catch.
They dug a pit, in hopes I’d fall.
O God, be exalted o’er all.
Let Your glory shine to all men,
So they may be saved.

Steadfast is my heart, O my God;
I will sing of all Your wonders.
Awake, my soul! Sing praise to God!
Early I will rise and praise Him!
I’ll praise God among the nations;
I will sing among the peoples.
God’s love reaches to the heavens,
So we may be saved.
