Summary of Matthew 21:33-41
Jesus Christ was speaking here to the chief priests and the elders of the people in the Temple of God. And he spoke to them in parables. In this particular parable he presented to the Jews a scenario which illustrated for them how they, as a people, had treated the prophets of old, and which prophesied as to how they were yet going to treat Jesus, i.e. that they were going to have him put to death. And so God was going to have to judge them, not only for rejecting his son Jesus but for having him put to death.
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
‘The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the Lord’s doing,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?“Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.” (Matthew 21:42-43 NKJV)
So, what was Jesus saying to these Jews, but not to just them, but to the whole nation of Israel? Because of their rejection of Jesus as their Messiah, the kingdom of God would be taken away from them and given to a people who would produce its fruit, meaning primarily to the Gentiles who did believe in Jesus, although that included some Jews who did believe in Jesus, too. And God did take the kingdom of God away from the Jews who denied Jesus as their Lord, and it was given to all people who believed in Jesus.
Based on this passage of Scripture and many others which teach the same thing, that means that the physical and political nation called “Israel,” [which is comprised mostly of Jews, and mostly of people who do not believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (i.e. Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit)], they are no longer God’s chosen people. For the kingdom of God was taken away from them and given to a people who would believe in Jesus Christ as their Messiah and who would obey God and do what he says.
So, what this means is that the nation state called “Israel” is not God’s chosen people. For God took that kingdom away from the Jews who rejected Jesus as their Messiah. So the Jews who reject Jesus are not to inherit what God promised to Abraham and to his seed (his seed meaning Jesus Christ). They have no rights whatsoever from a biblical perspective over any other people of the world. They have no rights to kill and to destroy other people in order to take over their land. They are not to be considered a privileged people of God’s choosing with certain rights that others do not have.
And the apostle Paul taught the same thing over again when the Christians were being pressured by the Judaizers that they needed to be more like Jews and that it would add to their salvation. He let them know that the Jews who rejected Jesus were no different from their Arab neighbors who rejected Jesus as their Messiah, and that biblical Jerusalem, the city of God, was no longer a physical city but it was a spiritual city comprised of those who trusted in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of their lives.
So, being a physical descendent of Abraham does not make anyone “a child of God.” It does not mean that they belong to Israel, either. For it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise. And if we belong to Christ, then we are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise God made to Abraham and to his seed, Jesus Christ. Biblical Israel, thus, is no longer Jews only, and it no longer includes anyone who denies Jesus as the Christ. It is all who believe in Jesus Christ.

Loved Ones, Oh, my heart’s desire
Is that you might come to Jesus.
Many appear zealous for God,
But they do not trust in Him.
They have not submitted to the One
Who saved them from their sins;
Not forsaken their sins,
Nor have they obeyed their King.
The word of the Lord is near you:
The word of faith we’re proclaiming:
That you must confess your faith
In Jesus as your Lord and King:
Believe in Him as your Lord,
And follow Him where’er He leads.
Share the gospel; be a witness,
And meet others’ needs.
Beautiful are the feet of those
Who bring the good news of Jesus:
Anyone who would come to Him
Must deny himself today;
Die to sin and self, and
Let the Spirit transform you in heart;
Put on your new self in Jesus,
Yielding to the cross.
