Dishonest Scales

Proverbs 11:1-3,7,19-21,23 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

1Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD,
but an accurate weight is His delight.
2When pride comes, disgrace follows,
but with humility comes wisdom.
3The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the perversity of the faithless destroys them.
7 When the wicked man dies, his hope perishes,
and the hope of his strength vanishes.

19Genuine righteousness leads to life,
but the pursuit of evil brings death.
20The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD,
but the blameless in their walk are His delight.
21Be assured that the wicked will not go unpunished,
but the offspring of the righteous will escape.
23 The desire of the righteous leads only to good,
but the hope of the wicked brings wrath.

Somewhere in The Middle

This morning the Lord is giving me a picture of someone who or a teaching which is half-way between the grace of God and the gospel of our salvation as taught in the Scriptures in the correct biblical context. So this person and/or teaching are both half-way away from biblical grace and half-way to the teachings of the Scriptures on biblical grace and the gospel of Christ. So, this represents a half-truth gospel of salvation and of the grace of God. And a half-truth, which is not a whole-truth, is a lie, especially if it is deliberate.

This person and/or this teaching are not of God, but of Satan, who likes to distort the truths of the Scriptures in order to lead people into accepting the lies and rejecting the truth. So this represents false teachers and false teachings which are permeating today’s modern institutional “churches.” And those who deliberately teach lies to the people are those who are malicious, morally unclean, liars, deceivers, manipulators and fakes who fake their Christianity in order to deceive the people into accepting the lies vs truth.

Rapidly Increasing

And these liars, and the lies which they are teaching, are rapidly increasing. For what so many of them are teaching is what tickles itching ears and appeases human flesh and removes guilt and even gives permission to the sinners to keep on in their sins. For so many of them are teaching that all you have to do is make a verbal confession of Christ as Lord and of belief in his crucifixion and resurrection, and you are good to go for eternity. No repentance and no obedience to God and to His commands required.

So, this is a compromise of truth and righteousness. And it is a distortion of the truth of the gospel of salvation and of God’s grace. For Jesus taught that to come to Him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin and to self), and follow Him in obedience, as a matter of life practice. If we do not, we will die in our sins. And His grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives (see Luke 9:23-26; Titus 2:11-14).

Dishonest Scales

So, this definitely fits with “dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but an accurate weight is His delight.” Pride comes before a fall. Those who choose the lies over the truth often do so out of pride and selfishness and a desire to keep on in their sins while convincing themselves that God’s grace covers it all. But God’s grace is not permission to keep on in deliberate and habitual sin. It requires death to sin and obedience to God. If you remain in sin, you will die in your sins. And hell will be your destiny.

For the genuine righteousness which leads to life has to do with us, by biblical faith in Jesus Christ, and in the power of God, dying with Christ to sin, being raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer as slaves to sin, but now as servants of righteousness, i.e. of what is deemed righteous in the eyes of God – moral purity, uprightness, godliness, etc. So, believe God, obey His commands, put sin to death, and walk in His ways. For a false hope of salvation based on lies will lead to hell, and not to heaven.

For By Grace

For by grace we’ve been saved
Of all our sins,
So that with Christ Jesus
Our lives begin.
Cleansing us from sin,
He made pure within
All who trust in Him
As their Savior, friend,
So that with Christ Jesus
Our lives begin.

We’ve been saved through faith;
This not from ourselves,
Lest that we should boast
In our fleshly works.
Our salvation is
A gift from our God,
Who loves us so much
That He gave His Son
To die on the cross
For all of our sins.

So repent of all
Of your sins today,
And He’ll forgive you;
Wipe your sins away.
Obey all of His
Teachings given you,
So that you can walk
With Him now in truth;
So that you can walk
With Him now in truth.
