Jeremiah 7:1-7 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2“Stand in the gate of the house of the LORD and proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who enter through these gates to worship the LORD. 3Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: Correct your ways and deeds, and I will let you live in this place. 4Do not trust in deceptive words, saying:

‘This is the temple of the LORD,
the temple of the LORD,
the temple of the LORD.’

5For if you really correct your ways and deeds, if you act justly toward one another, 6if you no longer oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow other gods to your own harm, 7then I will let you live in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.”

Translated to the times in which we live today, under the New Covenant with God – Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit – the temple of the Lord is no longer a physical building in a particular physical location. We, the people of God, who are of faith in Jesus Christ, are now that temple, the temple of God. And the gate of the house of the Lord is not a physical gate but it is the way into relationship with Jesus Christ by faith in Him in denying self, dying to sin, and in following the Lord in obedience to His commands, by His grace.

So, also translated to today, this would be speaking to all who have professed faith in Jesus Christ. And the message is to call out hypocrisy and false forms of worship, perhaps even done in front of others to give a false impression of genuine faith in the Lord, or to promote a particular institutional church gathering in order to increase its attendance. And it was to call them to genuine repentance, to leave their sins behind them and to follow the Lord where they will then be accepted into the family of God.

Jeremiah 7:8-11 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“8But look, you keep trusting in deceptive words to no avail. 9Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known, 10and then come and stand before Me in this house, which bears My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue with all these abominations’? 11Has this house, which bears My Name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Yes, I too have seen it, declares the LORD.”

But the problem was that the people kept listening to deceptive words, and that is actually where so many who profess Christ as Lord are today. For so many men serving as “pastors” of church congregations are not godly men, being led of the Spirit of God in what to teach, but they are cult leaders and business men who are following the ways of the flesh, and who are following after lies, who are following the ways of marketing schemes and business plans on how to “grow their churches,” rather than being led by the Spirit.

So many of them have, thus, diluted and altered the message of the gospel of our salvation in order to be less offensive and more pleasing to the people of the world who they are trying to attract to their gatherings. And so many of them are now teaching that God does not require repentance (death to sin) and obedience to His commands as part of faith which saves. And so they are giving the people permission to keep on in deliberate and habitual sin, in stealing, murdering, committing adultery, perjury and idol worship.

Jeremiah 7:12-15 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“12But go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for My Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel. 13And now, because you have done all these things, declares the LORD, and because I have spoken to you again and again but you would not listen, and I have called to you but you would not answer, 14therefore what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears My Name, the house in which you trust, the place that I gave to you and your fathers. 15And I will cast you out of My presence, just as I have cast out all your brothers, all the descendants of Ephraim.”

So, what the Lord is saying to those who profess His name today is that we must all live the life God has called us to live, in practice, for us to have salvation from sin and eternal life with God. And this is not a one time thing we do and now we are good to go for eternity. Our salvation, although it has a beginning, is progressive. We must deny self, die to sin, and obey God as a matter of life practice, not just in profession with one’s lips. And this does not mean we will never fail (1 John 2:1-2) but sin must not be our practice.

For there is a warning for us here that if sin is what we continue in, because we have been convinced by the liars that God is okay with that, which He is definitely not, that when the time comes for God to judge, and we stand before Him, He will deny that He knew us, and He will cast us out of His presence. We will not have salvation from sin and we will not have eternal life with God if we do not repent of (turn from) our sins and now obey God in life practice. So we need to believe this and obey God and not the flesh.

Just Are You

Based off Revelation 15-16

Great and marvelous are Your deeds, O God.
Just and true Your ways, King of all the earth.
Who will not fear You; glorify Your name?
You are righteousness. Praise Your Name!

Just are You, O Lord, our Eternal ONE,
For You judge the earth in Your righteousness.
They have shed the blood of Your righteous ones.
You give their reward. They’re to blame!

Kings of all the earth gather, one accord;
Make haste to engage in a mighty war.
They oppose the Lord and His holy saints.
They serve wickedness, to their shame!

Jesus comes again, to some unforeseen.
Blessed are those who wait for Him at the gate.
They’ll not be ashamed. “Glad” be their refrain.
When He comes again, He’ll remain!
