No Excuses For Sinful Practices!

Romans 1:18-20 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.”

It is against God’s will that any of us should sin against God, but especially if one does so willfully, deliberately, and habitually. For we who profess faith in Jesus Christ are called of God to holiness and to righteousness. We are called of God to leave our lives of sin behind us and to now walk (in conduct) in obedience to our Lord and to His commands, in the power of God. But even many who profess Christ as Lord are those who suppress the truth of God’s Word by their wickedness, for their lives are not surrendered to God.

Many people make excuses for their deliberate and habitual sins against God, including many who profess faith in Jesus Christ. They find someone else to blame, or they blame their environment, or they blame society, or they will claim to not know when they did know. And so God let us all know here, through the teachings of Paul, that all of us have had God revealed to us through His creation, so we are all without excuse if we try to excuse away habitual sin against God. Sinful addiction will face the wrath of God.

Replacing God with Idolatry

Romans 1:21-23 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“21For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images of mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.”

There are many people today who profess faith in Jesus Christ but who are living the exact opposite of the kind of life Jesus gave His life up for on that cross. For in His death Jesus put our sins to death with Him so that, by faith in Him, we will now deny self, die to sin, and follow our Lord in walks of obedience to His commands, all in the power of God. He died and rose again, not just to forgive us our sins but to deliver us out of our slavery to sin so we will now serve Him with our lives in doing His will He has for us to do.

But so many people professing faith in Jesus Christ today are being fed a pile of lies, and they are believing the lies, and so they are continuing in their deliberate and habitual sin, claiming that God’s grace covers it all. But Jesus taught if we want to come after Him we must deny self, die to sin, and obey His commands in practice. He taught that we are not saved by giving Him lip service only, but we must be those who are doing the will of God. For if sin and disobedience to God are our practice, we do not have life with God.

Unnatural Human Relationships

Romans 1:24-27 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“24Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity for the dishonoring of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is forever worthy of praise! Amen.

“26For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27Likewise, the men abandoned natural relations with women and burned with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.”

Now here this is dealing with a very specific sin category. Overall it is speaking here of the sins of sexual immorality, idolatry, and adultery. More specifically it is speaking of homosexuality, i.e. women with women and men with men in sexual relationships. But I am of the belief that a man or a woman who gratifies their own sexual urges with themselves are still preferring same sex relationships over what God designed for us human beings to do. And it is still idolatry and adultery against God and spouse.

And according to Jesus, even for someone to look at another with lust in one’s heart and mind, it is still adultery. No physical contact required at all. And this is huge today with so many people professing faith in Jesus Christ who are regularly viewing pornography or any kind of sexual and seductive material which is intended to stir up one’s lusts. For we are to be those who are keeping our minds pure and who are focused on pleasing the Lord and not the sinful cravings of the flesh, and who are faithful to our spouses.

Listen to me ev’ryone and
Understand this teaching of Christ:
Why do you break the commands
Of God for the sake of tradition?
When you follow the ways of man,
And don’t obey the words of Christ,
You nullify the words of God,
And you hold to the ways of man.

What comes out of a man’s mouth is
What makes him unclean and dirty.
The things that come out of the mouth
Come from the heart, from within him.
The heart of man is so sinful;
From his nature, out comes evil:
Lying, cursing, greed and malice,
Lust and lewdness, deceit, slander.

Jesus calls us to obey Him;
Turn from our sins; follow His ways.
Yet, His people honor Him with their lips,
but their hearts not with Him.
Their worship of God is in vain.
Their teachings are rules taught by man.
Jesus calls us; gently leads us
To return and follow His truth.
