2 Corinthians 11:1-4 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“1I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness, but you are already doing that. 2I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. For I promised you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

“3I am afraid, however, that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may be led astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ. 4For if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it very easily.”

The Bride of Christ

When we believe in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of our lives, in truth and in righteousness, He becomes our husband, and we become His bride. So we are to submit to Him as Lord (Owner-Master) of our lives, and we are to be faithful to Him from that time forward. No longer should sin and disobedience to God’s commands be our practice. For in Jesus’ death on that cross He put our sins to death with Him so that by faith in Him we will die to sin and now live to God in obedience to His commands, in God’s power.

Nonetheless, we live in a day and age where liars and deceivers abound, and where “wolves in sheep’s clothing” are serving as “pastors” of so many “church” congregations. And so many of them are lying to the people, teaching them a false half-truth gospel which removes many of the critical elements of the gospel message in order to appease human flesh. So they are convincing much of the bride of Christ to live in adultery to her husband, and to keep on in deliberate and habitual sin under the guise of forgiveness.

Did Jesus’ death on that cross offer forgiveness of all sins? Yes! But under the provision that the person seeking the forgiveness is of genuine biblical faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of their own doing, but which comes from God. And that faith requires that we deny self, die to sin, and obey God and His commands in life practice or we are not true children of God. But can a true child of God still sin? Yes! (1 John 2:1-2) But if sin is our habit, and not obedience to God, we don’t know God and we don’t have eternal life in Him.

The Failed Marriage

In a human to human marriage relationship we take marital vows to one another to be faithful in marriage to our spouse. For in marriage we are to become one flesh, each of us having equal love and concern for the other. But when one spouse (or both) decides to commit adultery to the other, that breaks those marriage vows, and now the marriage relationship is broken. But can it be healed? Yes! It can via genuine repentance and renewed commitment. But if a spouse continues in adultery, the marriage is broken.

The same goes in our marriage relationship with Christ. First of all, so many professers of faith in Jesus Christ never did commit their lives to Christ to do His will, but they just used “faith in Jesus” to forgive them their sins thinking that they could now continue living in sin without punishment. So they remain married to sin, to lust, to sexual immorality, to adultery, to idolatry, and the like. Thus, the marriage is broken before it even gets started. So they are not truly “in Christ” because they are still living in habitual sin.

And since so much of today’s “church” here in the USA has taken the wide road which leads to death, and they are refusing the narrow path which leads to heaven and to life eternal with God, the situations mentioned above have gotten much worse. So many are giving lip service only to God but they are still living for the sinful desires of the flesh. So many are believing that forgiveness of sins gives them permission to keep sinning without punishment. But God says the ones Doing His will have eternal life with God.

For by grace we’ve been saved of all our sins,
So that with Christ Jesus our lives begin.
Cleansing us from sin, He made pure within
All who trust in Him as their Savior, friend,
So that with Christ Jesus our lives begin.

We’ve been saved through faith; this not from ourselves,
Lest that we should boast in our fleshly works.
Our salvation is a gift from our God,
Who loves us so much that He gave His Son
To die on the cross for all of our sins.

So repent of all of your sins today,
And He’ll forgive you; wipe your sins away.
Obey all of His teachings given you,
So that you can walk with Him now in truth;
So that you can walk with Him now in truth.
