The Dream I Had

I woke up this morning out of a dream. I asked the Lord if this was from Him, for not all dreams are. But as I examined the elements contained within the dream, and as I read the Scriptures where I was reading next, the Lord assured me that this was from Him, and He gave me understanding of it in relation to the passage of Scripture which I read. This is what I recall:

“I was in a building which appeared to be a restaurant of some kind. I was standing at a counter talking to the people who were standing behind the counter, like I was returning something which I did not want or I was waiting to get something I had not yet received which I should have received. There was a man nearby who I recognized as having been a part of a church we used to participate in. I am thinking he had good things to say about me but that maybe he was mistaking me for someone else. But I remember that we used to be a part of that church, but we no longer were. END”

In examining this dream in prayer, seeking the Lord as to whether or not this dream was from Him, I came to the realization that this dream is like one of Jesus’ parables He used to share with the people when He lived on the earth. For He often used real life situations in order to illustrate biblical truths.

My Understanding

So, this is what the Lord spoke to me. I believe I am representing God in this dream. The building could be a physical building where much of the church gathers on a weekly or semiweekly basis and/or it could have to do with something which is building, i.e. developing or forming within the gatherings of the church. And this has to do with me standing at a counter either returning something I did not want and/or requesting to receive something I had not received which I should have received. I think it is both!

2 Timothy 4:1-4 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom: 2Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction.

“3For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 4So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

And I believe this is what the dream was about. For a restaurant is a place where food is prepared and served to others. And the church is the body of Christ, and the gatherings of the church are where spiritual food (truth) is prepared and then given to the people for them to partake of and to take within their minds and hearts as to be applied to their minds, hearts, and bodies. But in the dream I was at a counter (disputing and opposing) what was being served and/or the fact that I had not yet received what should have been served. And this goes with what Paul was telling Timothy, too.

Truth vs Lies

If this was a gathering of the church, the body of Christ, I should have been receiving the truth of God’s word being spoken to the people and not the lies being so commonly spoken today. I should have been hearing the voices of Godly men and women preaching (prophesying), i.e. proclaiming the Word of the Lord in truth and in righteousness, reproving and rebuking the lies being taught as truth. And I should not have been receiving the lies which “itching ears” want to hear telling the people that they do not have to repent of their sins and that they do not have to obey God and His commands.

In the dream I noticed that there was a man nearby who I recognized as having been a part of a church gathering we use to participate in. The word “man” is often used in terms of human flesh. I was thinking that the man had good things to say about me but that maybe he was mistaking me for someone else. And this is what is happening in what appears to be the majority of “the church” here in the USA. So many are speaking “good words” about “God,” but it is the god of the flesh and not the God of the Scriptures. And the “good words” are often lies created by the flesh.

Biblical Faith Comes From God

God – Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit – provided the way for humans to be forgiven their sins and to have eternal life with God. But the faith to believe in God, in Jesus Christ, does not come from our flesh. It comes from God, it is gifted to us by God, and it is persuaded of God as to His righteousness and holiness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need and of God’s requirement that, by faith in Him, we deny self, die daily to sin, suffer with Him for the sake of righteousness, and obey Him and His commands. And all who refuse Him are not part of God, and He is not part of them.

God does not participate in gatherings of “the church” which are teaching lies to the people and which are refusing to teach the truth of God’s word to the people. God does not participate with those who refuse to tolerate the sound doctrine of the gospel of our salvation as taught by Jesus and by His New Testament apostles in their true biblical context. He does not participate with those who, with itching ears, gather around themselves teachers to suit their own fleshly desires. And He is not in fellowship with those who turn their ears away from the truth in order to turn aside to follow after the lies.

Seekers of Truth and Righteousness

2 Timothy 4:5-8 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“5But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8From now on there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but to all who crave His appearing.”

We who profess faith in Jesus Christ should be seekers of truth and righteousness who study the Scriptures in their appropriate and correct biblical context. For many lies are being spoken and received and accepted as truth from Scriptures removed from their correct biblical context in order to make them say what they do not teach if taught in the correct biblical context. And we should be countering the lies being taught, and we should be asking for the truth to be taught. And we should not be participating in “church” gatherings where lies and not the truth are being taught.

Instead, we should be those who stand on the Word of God, taught biblically, and we should be those who are refuting the lies and who are spreading the truth of God’s Word to the people of this world. And we should be doing this even if we are accused falsely of teaching “works salvation,” and if we are being lied about and rejected and cast aside as unwanted by those who are buying into the lies and who are rejecting the truth. We must fight the good fight of faith to the finish no matter how we are treated. For one day we will be with our Lord for eternity and He will reward us for our perseverance.
