For Our Nation

War, politics, lies, betrayal, the murdering of innocents, our young men and women in uniform dying on a battle field via men of power; takeovers of nations, riots and lawlessness, sin abounding, the church asleep or complacent for the most part; the gospel diluted, and do we even notice?

Through all that is going on in this world of ours, Jesus is gently calling us to Him to make him Lord (master) of our lives. The good news is that God is in absolute control over all things, and he will work it all out for our good. We need to pray much for our nation.

“Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods” (Ps. 40:4).

“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

“You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:17-24).

For Our Nation

An Original Work / September 11, 2012

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: we’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.

    • Yes, Lydia, our nation has gotten really bad. But God is in control. He is allowing all this for a purpose. So, trust him. Follow him, and let him lead you to what is next for you.

Thank you for your encouragement. The lyrics came from the Lord, and they are true. So, all glory to God!

I hope you are doing well. Love you much! Gma Sue

  1. Amen Sue 🙏🏻. You hit the nail on the head, you have spoken so beautifully the very truths of our Lord. I for one have been thinking of what you spoke about for weeks now. My head felt so jumbled up, that I had a hard time putting into words how I felt. As always Thank you so much for sharing..Blessings. 🙌🏼 🌹

    • Paula, thank you. Praise the Lord! It all comes from HIM. You are so welcome. I am glad it helped you to put your thoughts together. These are very troubled times. We all need to be looking to Jesus as our only Savior, and our only hope, and as our only healer, and we need to not be looking to humans to save us.

  2. Such a difficult time we are living in! We knew this time was coming but we didn’t know we would be here when the world became so hateful to Christians in this country. Those in other countries are suffering terribly but so far we have been spared some of the physical persecution they have endured. We definitely have to change our mindset, that is for sure!

    • Valerie, that is for certain. Many Americans thought they would escape such persecution, even though a large part of the Christians in the world had been persecuted for their faith over many generations.

They thought they would not have to go through what Christians in other countries have gone through, even though the Bible says we will all be hated and persecuted for righteousness’ sake if we follow Jesus Christ with our lives.

So, yes, I imagine that this is coming as a surprise to many, and will be even more of a surprise as things continue to get much worse. Yes, these are very difficult times in which we are now living.

Yes, we the church have to change our mindset. I am hoping and praying that this will be a great awakening to the church here in America and that they will be on fire for the Lord Jesus as a result of this. Good will come out of this. Of that, I am certain. I believe it already has. Thank you, Valerie, for your insights. I appreciate them. ❤

  4. Hey Sue!
Just stopping by to say hello and reread your post today. My thoughts and prayers, like yours is with our Nation that is so broken now and so very deep in sin. It is so sad to watch and it breaks one’s heart. But the good news is that yes, GOD IS IN CONTROL and we might not see it, but HE IS working!! I do believe HE is also strengthening HIS Church for what is to come.
HOPE you are well my friend and blessing today for you from across the miles!

    • Maxine, thank you. Yes, I “pinned” this particular post at the top so it will be there until I take it down. It speaks to where we are today as a nation and as a world, and so it seems appropriate to have it be pinned at the top.

Thank you so much for thinking of me, and for stopping by to say “hello.” I agree with your assessment of where we are as a nation. It is very sad, indeed. And, yes, thank the Lord, he is still in control, so in that we can rest secure. And, yes, I do believe he is getting us ready for what is yet to come.

Thank you so much for commenting here and for sharing the concerns of your heart. I am well, thank you. Some of these changes of rules in our societies are a bit of a challenge, for sure, but nothing compared to what people of other nations have had to suffer for their lifetimes. So, we are still blessed.

  5. It is interesting to me how we have learned, somewhat to fill in the extra time due to covid. We have moved to another state in the middle of this trial and God has met more needs than I can name. We moved up to northern Mn. where our daughter lives since she will be our care giver when the times comes. At 73 we know it closer then we like to think about of needing someone to care for us. Seems just yesterday we were flying back and forth from over sea to the states for our furloughs. we are missionaries with Ethnos360 and now serve in a Member Care role in the states. Age sure does change our way of life though and one must adapt to it in order to be affective in our ministry. Even with covid we are able to reach out to our missionaries when they come home through several social medias avenues. Great post.

    • Betty, nice to meet you. I am 70 years old, so I am close to your age. Thank you for sharing some of your story with me. We have 4 children, and all of them not further than an hour away from us. I am a missionary, too, only I don’t physically go to other countries. The Lord has me on the internet and he takes what he gives me to write to people of many nations.

I grew up in the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church which has more churches overseas than it does in the USA. So missionaries came to our church all the time to speak and we had yearly missions conferences, so missions was always important in my life from early on.

Yes, Covid has provided us all with some challenges, but good is coming out of it, too. For the past year, the Lord has doubled the amount of writing he was having me do, so I have not had much spare time during this time.

Yes, age does most certainly change our way of life. I agree! I started slowing down at age 69, but the Lord gives me what I need each day to keep going and to keep writing for his glory under his guidance and direction. So, the song “For Our Nation” came from him, so I give him all the glory!

Thank you for writing to me. I enjoyed reading about your life. You are where it is colder. I grew up in Akron, Ohio, so I know cold weather. We have lived in the south for 37 years and 33 years in the north (midwest). I prefer the south. I hope all goes well for you in MN.
